The Wolf Valley Charity Fund had a very entertaining and successful dinner and dance at Vale do Lobo’s auditorium on Saturday November 6th., 2010. This followed the Golf and Family Day event on June 5th., an equally resounding success with 152 golfers participating raising €35,000.
A silent auction had been in progress for a few days before Saturday with items such as a helicopter flight, motorized glider flights, hotel stays, a painting and other great prizes.
The evening started with wine and soft drinks before the 117 persons moved into the beautifully decorated dining area. To start the evening Trish and Athil Raihani organised “Heads & Tails” – a hilarious game that was new to many guests. This was followed by a splendid three course dinner by Chef Maurice Belhaj of Spikes accompanied by wines from Quinta do Barranco Longo, the supplier of all wines during the evening.
Peter Geer, President of the Wolf Valley Charity Fund, welcomed the guests and thanked the Vale do Lobo Group of Companies for its continuing support, and the local community, donors and sponsors for their considerable help over the years.
There was a raffle which included prizes including a gift hamper from Apolónia, a dinner at Bistro des Z’Artes, wine, and flowers by Suzannah’s who also donated the beautiful table decorations.
The highlight of the evening was the Auction conducted by Vale do Lobo’s CEO Diogo Gaspar Ferreira. As usual Diogo was very entertaining. Auction items included flights by SATA and one week’s stay at the Dom Pedro Hotel in Madeira, a gourmet Michelin starred restaurant package, paintings by John Dix and Almancil based artist Aderita Silva and, rounds of golf with well known golf pros Jarmo Sandelin and António Sobrinho. Particularly enjoyable was the auctioning of one months rental of a hot tub from Good Life Spas.
This year the Wolf Valley Charity Fund has already presented a new specially adapted Citröen minibus to Existir and will be providing them with air-conditioning for the ground floor of their newly renovated building. UNIR has been given some equipment for their computer classes. ASMAL arranged a short holiday in Portimão for young handicapped children and the WVCF paid for some of the accommodation. Two special beds were donated to the Faro Hospital’s Children’s Ward Friends’ Association. The main charity being supported this year is ASCA – Associação Social e Cultural de Almancil – which is completing the building of a new residential care home for old people and the WVCF will provide up to €70,000 worth of furnishings.
The Charity Evening raised just over €11,000 bringing the total raised this year to €50,000.
